Mud Pit Update

In spite of the joys we all had at the mud pit in 2007, we've decided to not have one this year. The only location we've found for a mud pit is last years location. This location is problematic for several reasons.

  1. It is very difficult to clean up this site. Last year after hours of clean up there were still a good bit of junk and glass around the in the mud pit. This is not optimum for spectators or racers.

  2. The location is not pleasant. The main venues in Veterans Park and Moore Park are picturesque and wonderful enjoyable spots. The mud pit does not live up to these high standards. It's not a fun place.

  3. The flow of the race is difficult to maintain with the mud pit away from the two main venues. Having to collect the sculptures at the mud pit and then re-do this again for the water event at Veterans Park is problematic and time consuming.

  4. Parking is limited at all locations including the mud pit. It is difficult for spectators and pit crews to go to the mud pit and then get to Veterans Park in time for the water event.

  5. The mud pit has ugly sucky mud.

Bummer Man - What're You Gonna Do?

Well, I'm glad you asked. We're going to extend the sand event in Moore Park. After lunch each vehicle will be timed through a short obstacle course in conjunction with the sand pit. This is as we've done in previous years for the sand, only extended into an obstacle and sand course.

We don't know any details of the obstacles yet. We'll strive for a balance for large/small wheels etc. If any of the racers have ideas of what to put here, or what to avoid, please let us know. The over riding rule is that it should be fun for racers and spectators.
